Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin advocates for compassion, social welfare and peaceful coexistence

Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin delivers a sermon to community members upon his arrival to the city of Pune in December.

The 53rd leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, delivered a sermon at Mufaddal Complex in the Pune Camp area upon his arrival in the city on 19 December 2023. Over 8,000 community members in Pune and neighbouring areas gathered to welcome His Holiness and listen to the sermon.

While addressing community members, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin emphasised the importance of taking good care of our children, recognising them as the architects of a future characterised by resilience, empathy and positive change. He also counselled community members to ensure peaceful coexistence with all members of society and provide a helping hand to those in need. Syedna ended his sermon by praying for the peace and prosperity of the nation.

Aziz Poonawala, a member of the community in Pune said, “We can’t express in words how fortunate we are to host His Holiness in our city. His presence leaves an indelible mark on our hearts and souls and his words inspire us and guide us in our actions giving us a renewed sense of purpose.”

Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin arrived in Pune on Tuesday 19th December morning. During his brief stay in the city, Syedna met with community members and looked into their well-being.

Dawoodi Bohra community members initially settled in Pune around 200 years ago during the rule of the Peshwas. Today, around 30,000 members reside in different areas of the city with a majority settled in Kondhwa, Salunkhe Vihar, Fatima Nagar, Camp City and PCMC area.

Bohri Ali, one of the most popular business hubs of the Bohra community in Pune, has become a shoppers’ delight over the years. The local community members are largely engaged in the businesses of hardware, paints, real estate, and IT as well as having a presence in the manufacturing sector.

Known throughout India and the world as an educational hub, the ‘Oxford of the East’ attracts students from the world over. Thousands of Dawoodi Bohra students from all parts of the world are also studying and benefitting from the vast array of renowned educational institutes in Pune.
