With an impressive turnout of nearly 900 educators, an intensive Dyslexia Awareness Training Program was conducted to foster inclusivity in education.
The program was organised by the community's educational department to support diverse learning needs. Based on the guidelines provided by the department, school faculty across India received mandatory training as part of this program.
"We believe in welcoming and supporting every type of learner.
"This training is a crucial step in building our schools' capacity to cater to diverse learning needs, ensuring that each student can thrive in our classrooms,” said a program organiser.
The initiative draws inspiration from a successful program implemented by the New York City Department of Education, where 100,000 teachers were trained using an innovative online video-based approach. This citywide program was developed in partnership with tech giant Microsoft and the global charity Made By Dyslexia, featuring insights from expert teachers at schools renowned worldwide for their dyslexia support.
Recognizing that education extends beyond school walls, the department is taking an extra step by urging parents to participate in the training as parents play a crucial role by being the first and most influential teachers.
"By involving parents in this training, we're creating a supportive ecosystem that extends from school to home, benefiting not just students with dyslexia but all learners,” said the organiser.
The initiative is expected to have a profound and far-reaching impact. By nurturing a more inclusive and empathetic educational community, the department is empowering its educators with the necessary tools and training to help every child realise their full potential.
