Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin

After the sad passing of Syedna Taher Saifuddin in 1965, His Holiness Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, visited Aligarh within the first year of his accession to the august office of al-Dai al-Mutlaq.

During this visit in 1966, the University honoured him as they did his father before him and presented him with the same degree: Doctor of Theology, honoris causa. With this visit, Syedna Burhanuddin continued the noble legacy that Syedna Taher Saifuddin had established and strengthened the long-standing relationship between the Dawoodi Bohra community and this respected establishment.

While Syedna Burhanuddin was at AMU, the Muslim University High School at Minto Circle, one of the first establishments of the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College, AMU’s original name, was renamed Syedna Taher Saifuddin High School in memory of Syedna Saifuddin’s contributions to the University and the causes of learning.

Later on, in recognition of Syedna Burhanuddin’s leadership qualities, his ability to bring people together and his recognition as an international ambassador of peace, Aligarh Muslim University requested him to take up the chancellorship of the institution.

Syedna Burhanuddin accepted the chancellorship in 1999, like his father had before him, and the two became the first father and son to hold the position.

His Holiness Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS

Shahzada Qaidjoher Ezzuddin visited AMU and delivered a message on behalf of his respected father, the Chancellor Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin in an event to celebrate Sir Syed Day.

In 1999, after Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin accepted the chancellorship of Aligarh Muslim University, his sons Shahzada Dr Qaidjoher Ezzuddin and Shahzada Idris Badruddin were invited to Aligarh for the Sir Syed Day celebrations. Dr Qaidjoher delivered His Holiness’ well-received message and prayer for the University and its staff and students. Chancellor’s delegation also visited the famed Syedna Taher Saifuddin High School at Minto Circle.
