Grounds for Celebration: Nairobi Community Host Under 15 T-10 Tournament

The Dawoodi Bohras of Nairobi hosted the finale of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav week at the community sports grounds in Saifee Park, marking a celebration of India’s 75 years of independence on June 18, 2023. The occasion featured the finals of the T10 cricket U15 tournament and an exhibition match between women cricketers from the Indian diaspora.

The event was graced by Her Excellency Ms Namgya Khampa, the High Commissioner of India to Kenya, and the Honourable Abdul Rahim Dawood, Member of Parliament for Imenti North, along with other dignitaries and esteemed guests.

During her speech, the High Commissioner expressed a sense of shared destiny with the Dawoodi Bohras, stating, ‘I know I am not a Dawoodi – but now we also share a destiny with the Dawoodis.’

Mr Dawood commended the community’s efforts by stating, ‘We have an example to emulate now. I am absolutely impressed with the conduct of this community.’ 

The ANJ committee, office staff and ground crew  created a memorable Diamond Jubilee celebration of India’s independence and the spirit of unity and sportsmanship.
