Dawoodi Bohra community members residing in Indonesia welcomed the Prime Minister of India, Mr Narendra Modi, at a cultural reception organised on the 15th of November 2022, at the Prime Plaza Hotel & Suites, Bali. The Prime Minister was in Indonesia for the G20 Summit in Bali. Held on the sidelines of the G20 meet, several prominent members of the Indian diaspora were invited to attend the reception.
Community members had the opportunity to engage in an interaction with the Prime Minister where he warmly greeted them and enquired about the community’s leader His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin. Community members extended their greetings and presented a wooden souvenir as a gesture of appreciation. Later during his address to the diaspora, the Prime Minister praised the community’s integrity and contributions to society wherever they reside.
Members of the Dawoodi Bohra community have lived in Indonesia from the early nineteenth century. Early settlers arrived from parts of western India and engaged in the trading of local oils, spices, textiles, etc going on to become successful merchants and businessmen.
