Dawoodi Bohra Community members in Surat pay their respects to the victims of the Morbi Bridge calamity

On Wednesday 2nd November, members of the Dawoodi Bohra community in Surat observed a moment of silence to pay tribute to the families of the victims who passed away due to the unfortunate collapse of the bridge in Morbi.

Thousands of Dawoodi Bohra members from all parts of the world have congregated in Surat for their annual educational seminar known as Istifada Ilmiyya. Before the start of their seminar sessions, members expressed their deepest condolences and sympathy to families of the deceased and also prayed for a speedy recovery to those injured in the incident.

More than 400 people were on the bridge when calamity struck on the 30th of October just after 6:00 PM as the bridge suddenly collapsed. With 134 lives lost in the tragic event, the Chief Minister of Gujarat Mr Bhupendra Patel announced the observance of a state-wide mourning on 2nd November as a mark of respect for the victims of the tragedy and their families.
