The Dawoodi Bohra community in Chennai announced the completion of renovation works at Chennai Urdu Primary School on 23rd June 2022. They also handed over essential school infrastructure to the management as part of the school upliftment and revival project by the community‘s Project Rise’ initiative.

Chief Guest, Mr KS Gingee Masthan, Minister of Minorities Welfare and Waqf board, was present on the occasion alongside Mr Kalanidhi Veeraswamy, Member of Parliament, Chennai North and Mr R Idreams Murthy, Member of Legislative Assembly, Tamil Nadu.

Shaikh Ishaq Kurawarwala, representative of His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, in Chennai was also present at the announcement program.

During his address to the audience, Abbas Raghib, Vice President of the Dawoodi Bohras of Chennai, said, ‘A few months ago, our leader His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin visited Chennai to meet with community members and inquire after their wellbeing. As part of his visit to the city, His Holiness graciously sponsored the renovation of Chennai Urdu Primary School in Royapuram, demonstrating a deep concern for the well-being of the school’s students and faculty.’

‘The project comprised renovation of bathrooms,  painting and plumbing works, along with the addition of essential infrastructure to the school. These include study tables, ceiling fans, an RO water purifier, steel plates, steel cupboards, educational books and occupational therapy material. Another integral part of the renovation and revival project is the allocation of salaries, which were handed over to teachers during the program,’ added Abbas Raghib.

The management of Chennai Urdu Primary School expressed gratitude to His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin and members of the Chennai Bohra community for supporting the school.

This renovation is part of the Dawoodi Bohra community’s global philanthropic endeavour known as ‘Project Rise’ which aims to uplift the less fortunate. It focuses on food and nutrition, healthcare, water and sanitation, education and environmental action.
