Community members in Fremont hosted a flag hoisting ceremony in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the first day of the new month following the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
Fremont City Mayor Lily Mei, members of the Fremont City Council, the Fremont Police Chief, officers from US Customs and Border Protection, along with a cadre of police officers and firefighters joined in the ceremony and celebration. Also in attendance was the Mobile Pantry Manager of TCV Food Bank, a key organisation the local community works with to help the less fortunate.
Following a hoisting of the US and California flags, children from the community led the attendees in singing the national anthem. The guests were then given a tour of the Masjid and its facilities by youngsters.
The event concluded with the enjoyment of coffee, Indian chai, muffins, traditional Eid sweet dish shīr khurma (milk with dates) and the popular breakfast niharī (stew).
