Flag hoisting ceremony

Anjuman-e-Najmi, San Francisco hosted a flag hoisting ceremony in honor of Flag Day along with a celebration of Eid-al-Fitr, the first day of the new month following the end of the Holy month of Ramadan.

Fremont City Council member Rick Jones, Police Chief Richard Lucero, Fire Chief Curtis Jacobson, along with a cadre of police officers and firefighters joined in the ceremony and celebration. Also in attendance was Mr Louis Chicoine, Executive Director of Abode Services, a key organisation Anjuman-e-Najmi works with to help the homeless.

Following a hoisting of the US and California flags, Dawoodi Bohra children led the attendees in singing the national anthem. Along with Anjuman-e-Najmi President Mr Moez Wajihi, the guests then planted a fragrant tree near the flagpole.

Police Chief Richard Lucero was honored with a special plaque and shawl, honoring his service and partnership with the Dawoodi Bohra community. The Chief retires in July. On behalf of the City of Fremont, Councilman Jones presented the community with a certificate of recognition.

The event concluded with enjoyment of coffee, traditional Indian chai, muffins, and the popular breakfast nihari (stew).
