The holy month of Ramadan is about doing good in all its forms towards all of mankind. With this spirit of philanthropy, the Dawoodi Bohra community in Tanzania undertook a host of activities to celebrate the compassion instilled by Ramadan.
Food donations and relief items such as mattresses and other essentials were given to the flood victims residing on the banks of the Msimbazi river. Due to a bout of heavy rainfall many people have been displaced as a result of the ensuing floods. The District Commissioner of Kinondoni municipality of Dar es Salaam received the aid on behalf of the people of his area.
Donations were also made to a school for disabled children in Dar es Salaam. The children and staff were overjoyed to receive much needed support.
Community members also met with the Chief Mufti of Tanzania to present him with donations for the less fortunate Muslims of Tanzania. The Chief Mufti has long been a friend of the community and has an ambitious vision to socially and economically uplift the Muslims of Tanzania. Community members pledged to help the Chief Mufti in realising his vision for the larger Muslim population of the country and hoped for a long and beneficial relationship.
The environment was not forgotten during the holy month. Burhani Foundation Tanzania organised a ‘Go green and keep our environment clean’ movement in local government schools by creating environmental awareness through art. Wall paintings and murals inspiring environmental mindfulness were coupled with cleanup drives.
