The Governor of Manipur and Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), Mrs Najma Heptulla, called on His Holiness Dr Syedna Mufaddal SaifuddinTUS at his Mumbai residence, Saifee Mahal on Sunday, 10th September.
Mrs Heptulla, the former Union Minister of Minority Affairs, is an Honorary Life President of IPU and the former Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. As Chancellor of JMI, Mrs Heptullah discussed a proposal for the upgradation and enhancement of research and infrastructure at three key educational institutes in India: Aligarh Muslim University (of which Syedna SaifuddinTUS is the current Chancellor), Jamia Millia Islamiya and Jamia Hamdard.
The proposal entails the establishment of offices dedicated to coordinating this effort between the three institutes. The primary purpose behind this initiative is to provide greater opportunities for attaining leadership roles in society for students attending these universities, who predominantly come from a Muslim background.
Towards the end of the meeting, the Governor also extended an invitation to His Holiness to visit Manipur which she described as a beautiful and serene example of the natural bounty India has been blessed with. His HolinessTUS extended an invitation to the Governor to visit Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah, the centuries old Academy of the Dawoodi Bohras in Surat.
