December 11th – 12th, 2017, Marol, Mumbai
Burhani sports held its international volleyball tournament on the weekend of the 11th – 12th of December. The Mumbai climate having finally taken a telling turn towards relative coolness it seemed the ideal time for the strenuous exertions that the game of volleyball entails.
Teams from around India and a couple from the Gulf made up the participants for the tournament which took place in the Hasanat/Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah sports ground, Marol.
Participating teams were Bengaluru (Bangalore), Chennai, Coimbatore, Dubai, Godhra, Indore, Secunderabad, Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah (Surat), Kuwait, Marol, Nagpur, Nasik and Surat.
After the group games and qualifying finals were completed and the dust had settled the two remaining contenders were Chennai and Bengaluru in a south Indian derby face-off final.
After the tussle had ended it was the coastal city that had taken the Champion’s mantle and those from the city of once pervasive gardens were left to rue what might have been.
All-in-all a wonderful weekend of sporting duels organized expertly by Bandra youngsters and supported vociferously by the local Bohra crowd.
Man of the match for the final went to Murtaza Haji of Chennai, while Man of the Series went to Sajjad Viramgamwala of Bengaluru.
